Hopefully, you've
now explored the introductory links we have provided
above, and you now have a basic understanding of what
sexual orientation, and gender identity and expression
are about. We're now going to take a closer look
at each of these concepts which, of course, can and
sometimes does overlap
in a person's life. Understanding which of these issues
(singular or plural) a
person may be dealing with is key to understanding the
may other issues that may be involved in the lives of
GLBTQ people. Note: Please don't skip the
section titled "Issues in the Lives of GLBTQ People" --
there's important information you need to be aware of as
the loved one of a GLBTQ person (or as a GLBTQ person
yourself). Without exploring that
section, then
you've only scratched the surface.
We strongly
encourage you to learn as much as you can about all of
these important topics since issues that affect one
usually affect the other.
As we have learned, it is sometimes very difficult to
separate these topics as they are often intertwined
in people you meet and especially in the discussions we
